The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any prominent honors show nears, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
